A note appears on the table currently strewn with Captain Sebastian Salisbury work.

"Dear Captain Sebastian Salisbury,
I would like to have a brief chat with you regarding a couple of future issues that could arise.
Hopefully you can meet me shortly, no rush nothing urgent.

Mr Smythe."

Walking through the camp Captain Salisbury spies Mr Smythe reading and strides.

"Ah Mr Smythe, you wanted a word. How can I be of assistance?"

"Ah my Lord, thank you for responding to my note."

Mr Smythe smiles warmly.

"Please pull up a ....... log"

"The reason for my note is regarding the continued governance of this yet unnamed colony. I can understand if you regard this as a frivolous thing to be considering at the moment as we are still in certain peril but id prefer it was looked at sooner rather than later."

"At the moment, in this time of crisis, the military are bravely and boldly leading the defence of our small band of strewn and lost souls. However at some point we have to consider the future leadership in whatever form that will take. His Majesty government may decide to appoint someone else to the position but I believe it is prudent to start to look to our own ranks for someone to recommend, or at least to act as an advisor to such a person. We must also consider that alot of people here are independent citizens which in time will want to exercise there rights as citizens and perform there own tasks and jobs."

"I ask this is considered now and that we provided a unified agreement to such a person for 2 main reasons, one in times of crisis, when we need strong leadership this isn't any argument over who that person is. And secondly so citizens and enemies alike, that are already here and may arrive know that Her Majesty government however small is united and demerited to survive and thrive here."

"Your thoughts my Lord?"

Whilst I hope that we will find a way off the island shortly or that we can make contact with England your concerns are certainly with merit.

I don't however think we can proceed with one leader.

This was a military mission and so as senior ranking officer it would imply that I am in charge (until we find a more senior ranking officer) representing the military

However you have previously pointed out that the Company funded a substantial part of the expedition and it would therefore be wrong for the Company's interests to be ignored. I therefore think you should represent the Company.

But many of our group are neither in the services or members of the company and they should have a representative. I think a member of the nobility is appropriate and so whilst I have some concerns over his demeanour Lord Byron should represent the people unless you have a better suggestion.

We three will be able to provide the leadership our Group needs now and be ready to advise whoever the government appoints to rule this new land.

I would welcome your thoughts Mr Smythe.

Mr Smythe smiles boardly

"No my lord we are in total agreement, it is exactly along the lines i was thinking myself. I will get something written up formally and we can speak with Lord Byron in a few days if thats acceptable."

"I see no reason most people wont accept this state of affairs, and rest assured at the moment I fully accept our lifes are best place in your leadership so you will have my public support."

Capital then. I'll leave Lord Byron to you then Mr Smythe.

I'm going to take a stroll and see if lady luck is with me and whether any port has washed up.

In which case I believe we should claim government salvage rights.

"Agreed and of course to save arguement quickly dispose of the said item in a suitable storage location for no further arguement can be held over its ownership."
